Time and time again, research has shown that participation in high school athletics has a positive influence on the scholastic achievement of the participants. The mission of the Research Triangle High School Athletic Department is to not only field competitive teams, but to teach student-athletes important values such as sportsmanship, hard work, and perseverance that will help them in high school and beyond.
In its first year, RTHS fielded cross country, basketball, and indoor soccer as independent club sports. For 2013-14, the Research Triangle Raptors joined the North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA) as a member of the 1A classification, and played in the North Central Athletic Conference (NCAC) – composed of charter schools from the Triangle and surrounding region.
Beginning in 2014-2015, the Athletics program has its own website with all up-to-date information about all sports, schedules, forms, regulations, and contact information. Please visit them regularly for complete information.
In order to be eligible for athletic participation, all student-athletes at RTHS must pass five of their six academic classes each semester and have a current physical examination conducted by a licensed physician on file. All student-athletes must also pay an athletics fee that will be used to defray the cost of essential expenses such as equipment, uniforms, and facility rentals.
All questions about athletics at RTHS can be directed to Alex Drake, the athletic director, at 919-998-6749 or by email.
